Rec My Weekend #6 – House of Comarre
Rec My Weekend is a new weekend feature here. A way for me to share something I’ve discovered this week, or an old favorite. And a way for YOU to help me increase my already-taller-than-me “to be read” pile. Because, really, there is NO SUCH THING AS TOO MANY BOOKS!! Feel free to share your “Rec My Weekend” recs in the comments below! And if you’re a blogger who’d like to join in… there’s a linky link tool below.
This week’s rec is a book series that I LOVE LOVE LOVE, and the final book will be out at the end of July. Kristen Painter’s House of Comarre series is a brilliant, unique addition to the vampire urban fantasy genre. The history and lore of the vampires, and how they interact, in the House of Comarre series is so unlike anything else I’ve read. The relationship is one similar to the “geisha” type hierarchy. Something that works well, under “normal” circumstances, but can be taken advantage of under the most extreme.
Chrysabelle’s story is one that is both heartbreaking and inspiring. She’s caught in a bad situation, and not exactly sure who she can trust. This is especially true when it comes to Malkolm, who she’d like to kick as often as she’d like to kiss. It’s a strategically smart story. One where the politics play as much a part in the danger as the hand to hand combat does. Together, with others who have their own reasons for shaking up the “status quo” (shifters, ghosts, fae… all with their own issues and loyalties), Chrysabelle is fighting for her right to live.
I don’t want to give too much away, but I will say this is a story that will completely capture you. You’ll get so wrapped up in it that your heart will be racing and you’ll want to be right in there fighting with them. I’ve read the first three of these books. Book 4 is out now, but I’ve heard the ending is a KILLER, so I’m waiting for book 5 (the last book in the series) to come out in a month. Then I’ll read them both, in one day, I’m sure. I’ll be finding a place in a corner somewhere, where no one will ask me any questions, and I won’t have any distractions. You have time to catch up!! Get books 1-4 now (BLOOD RIGHTS, FLESH AND BLOOD, BAD BLOOD, OUT FOR BLOOD), and pick up LAST BLOOD on July 30th. If you’re a quick reader… Jennifer from The Book Nympho is doing a read-along for book 3, BAD BLOOD, on July 5th. The info is HERE.
Here’s a bit about the first book in the series, BLOOD RIGHTS. You can click on the covers of the remaining books to read more about each of them. **Remaining book blurbs do have spoilers!**
Born into a life of secrets and service, Chrysabelle’s body bears the telltale marks of a comarré — a special race of humans bred to feed vampire nobility. When her patron is murdered, she becomes the prime suspect, which sends her running into the mortal world…and into the arms of Malkolm, an outcast vampire cursed to kill every being from whom he drinks.
Now, Chrysabelle and Malkolm must work together to stop a plot to merge the mortal and supernatural worlds. If they fail, a chaos unlike anything anyone has ever seen will threaten to reign.
So… who’s read these books and can’t WAIT for book 5?? Who’s adding them to your TBR shelf?? Who’s in LOVE with the gorgeous covers?? Check out other bloggers with recs this week.
