“HAPPY” Blogiversary Celebration with Linda Robertson

by Linda Robertson
First, thank you to the fantastic and lovely Jennifer Morris for allowing me to help her celebrate her BOOKS MAKE ME HAPPY 4 year Anniversary!
I’m not just an author, I’m a guitarist in a rock band. I’ve been writing since I was 8. That was the same age I took up piano, which led to guitar a few years later at 15. I was the only guitarist shouldering lead and rhythm duties (as well as singing a few songs) in an almost-all-girl band when I was 17. I’d also finished writing my first (terrible) novel by then.
Being a chick in a band is fantastic. It’s about having fun, playing music, hanging with friends, and wearing some cool clothes. I wanted to make it big.
Then my band opened locally for an all-girl band out of LA, also trying to make it big. 3 CDs under their belt. We knew all their songs. We thought they were great. They let us see their bus.

It was nothing more than 5 bunk beds and an old hard booth and table combo from a Burger King.
And they had 3 CDs out?
It a rude awakening for 17 year old me. I didn’t want to live like that. I just wanted to play, yanno? The band eventually fell apart and I eventually got married and had a couple (four) boys. In the meantime, writing was something I could do and still feel like I was kickin’ ass. 60d00572ccdd144680e7a4e770b919f2
Not too long ago I discovered HALESTORM. A band with a chick singer. Lzzy Hale is a-MAZ-ing. She’s got the voice—what a range!—she’s got the guitar chops, and the band boys (including her brother Arejay on drums). She can croon soulfully, she can belt out a ballad, and she can scream like nobody’s business. After a recent chance to catch them live, I’m more impressed. She can do it all live, too.
If you dig hard rock, you’ve got to check out HALESTORM. They not only deliver on the hard rock guitar riffs, Lzzy’s melodious vocals punctuate the bad-ass lyrics with catchy hooks you’ll be humming for days to come.
Check out these two songs below. In the comments, tell me what you think/which you liked best…or give a shout out to YOUR favorite rocking female—I may have not heard of some and am always eager to check out new ones! The awesome blog host, Jennifer, will select a winner and I will send a signed copy of Persephone Alcmedi #6 SHATTERED CIRCLE to the winner!! (US shipments only! Sorry!)

  1. Comment by Stephanie Fredrick:

Halestorm is a really great band. I have seen them live four times and they always rock. I’m a huge fan of female rockers. Another favorite of mine is In This Moment. I love the series and Johnny is one of my favorite book boyfriends.

  2. Comment by Trina.ADR:

I enjoyed both songs but I Miss the Misery is my favorite, it’s very catchy. I love strong female lead singers. One of my favorites is Shirley Manson from Garbage. I can’t believe your an author and a guitarist in a rock band, that is beyond awesome!

  3. Comment by donnas1:

    Halestorm is really good.

  4. Comment by Barbara E.:

I love it when Halestorm comes on the radio, I love their stuff and can’t help singing along. I’d pick Love Bites out of those two songs, it’s really great. 😀

  5. Comment by Jennifer:

I think this is the first time I’ve listened to their music, but yeah… I like them a lot.

  6. Comment by Jennifer:

She IS pretty awesome, Trina… just my humble opinion 🙂

  7. Comment by Jennifer:

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on Linda’s series (and on Johnny, lol)!!

  8. Comment by Bridgett:

I’m much more of a folksy artist fan so I would recommend a female band consisting of 3 sisters from Sweden, the group’s name is Baskery. They have some slow songs and some more rockesque stuff.

  9. Comment by Jennifer:

    *makes notes* 🙂

  10. Comment by bn100:

Haven’t heard this music before; like Gwen Stefani
