Q&A & Giveaway with Felicity Heaton

Hello all!! Today we’re helping celebrate the release of HUNGER,  the 8th book in the Vampire Realm series by Felicity Heaton!! Check out our Q&A , then below to find out how to win YOUR CHOICE of an ebook in the series!!

felicityheaton1) When you write, do you prefer quiet, or do you listen to music? If you like music playing, what is your preferred genre? Do certain characters have their own personal “soundtrack”?

I do write to music, and often I have a playlist for each book I write, plus my general one for different moods/types of scenes… like action / fight scenes, and romantic or solemn ones. For those types of scenes, I tend to listen to classical music as I find it more inspiring and find it draws the right emotions out of me that I can then pour into the book to bring it to life.

When I’m not listening to classical music, I tend to lean towards the alternative rock side of music. I love bands like Three Days Grace, Lifehouse, Nickelback, Red, Seether, 7 Days Away, OneRepublic, Thirty Seconds to Mars, 3 Doors Down, Daughtry, The Fray, Green River Ordinance and many many more. I find these bands really speak to me and there’s always a song or two from them that really suits the book I’m writing.

2) Where do you write? In an office, at the dining room table, at a local coffee shop? Do you prefer to write alone or with a group? If you write with a group, do you also read/critique each other’s work?

I write mostly in my office. I can work in cafes but I only tend to hit them when I’m up against a deadline and there are too many distractions at home. I also write in my garden when the weather is nice. It’s lovely when I get to write out there. Very peaceful and soothing. I always work alone on stories and I’m not part of any group. They’re few and far between in the UK and most of them don’t really deal with paranormal romance.

3) What was your first vision of your main character? Was it a scene? A “look”? An attitude?

Normally, it’s the moment they stroll into my head and into my heart, and I figure out what I’m going to do with them. After that, the scenes begin coming. But it’s always a meeting first. They’ll just pop up and tell me they want their story written, and I don’t tend to turn them away.

4) What was your favorite Halloween costume (or other costume party costume)?

I loved the year I dressed up as Yuki from Vampire Knight, which is a Japanese manga / anime. Favourite future costume will be when I have an excuse, and maybe the figure, to wear an Assassin’s Creed costume.

5) What was harder to write, the first line or the last line? Why?

The last line. I always find placing the first words on the first page daunting, but it’s the end words that really need to shine. I want to get them perfect.

6) What’s the strangest thing you came across while doing research for this book?

Nothing really. Because I write paranormal romance, I don’t tend to have to do any research for my books. I’ve been to the places I talk about in the book – Paris and Amsterdam – but didn’t come across anything out of the ordinary there.

7) If you could spend a day with one of your characters, who would be it and what would you do all day?picDetaildarkanddeadlyboxedset

I would probably spend it with Vail, from my Eternal Mates series. I’m actually working on his book right now, Tempted by a Rogue Prince, and I would love to spend a day showing him all the good things this world has to offer to counter all the bad he has been through in his life.

8) What’s one thing you’ve always wanted to learn to do, but haven’t yet?

Windsurf. Although, I really don’t like open sea so it seems odd to want to windsurf. I would probably do it on a lagoon, where I know I’m safe from the beasties of the depths. I’ve also always wanted to hang glide, which is even more silly because I don’t like flying!

9) If you could have one word removed from the English language, from all dictionaries and out of everyone’s vocabulary, what would it be, and why? If you could ADD one word, what would it be?

They already added the word that I always loved but was never considered a real word. Ginormous. A wonderful mixture of gigantic and enormous. If I had to remove a word, it would probably be one of those strange usages made up by celebrities and young people, where they take a word and give it a new definition. I’m not for that. New words are one thing, twisting the definition of a word is another.

10) What is one thing about you that your friends know and you would love your readers to know as well. Or… if you’re in a giving mood… what is one story that your friends LOVE to talk you into telling that you don’t generally volunteer?

I think most of my readers know everything about me. I’m very much an open book. I tend to put it all out there for them to know. I don’t really have many stories either. I’m not the type to do crazy outlandish things that make for great tales. Sometimes I wish that I was. In terms of things about me though, I’m sure they know them all by now. I’m an archer, a PlayStation fiend, a geek, a programmer, a cinnamon addict, a cat lover, an adorer of all things Japanese, and more. They could probably tell you the more! Sometimes, I think they know me better than I know myself, and I’m cool with that.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. Congratulations on all your successes, and good luck with all you have planned for the future!

Honestly I have no desire to do any of those things. I am very happy with my feet firmly on the ground :).

  2. Comment by fsteph55:

I am not a fan of heights so non of those would work, lol. I have always wanted to learn to scuba dive and go to the Great Barrier Reef to try it.

  3. Comment by Mary Preston:

Neither, they both sound too dangerous.
