Rec My Weekend – Sin City Collectors Series
I love when authors are able to find new, fun ways to tell a story. It’s even BETTER if it’s two authors (or more) that I really enjoy, and they create an entirely new series with interesting characters and cool worldbuilding. That’s exactly what’s happening with Kristen Painter, Amanda Carlson and a few of their friends with the Sin City Collectors series!!
Supernatural “bounty hunters”, in Vegas, with action and sometimes sexytimes. Yes, please… and THANK YOU! So far, there are two stories out, and they read… not so much as sequels, but as companions in the world. It’s refreshing to be able to read this series, with each starting and finishing on it’s own, without an “end of the world, quest to save all of the people” feeling. I DO love those epic types of series, with multi-book arcs and detailed backstories… but this is SO nice to have in contrast. I’m very excited to see what the next installments bring. There doesn’t seem to be a finite number of characters or situations to limit the series. They are novellas, at this point, but I’ve heard that full length novels may be in the works down the road.
In case the series is new to you… here’s the overall concept, and the blurbs for the first two book (from Kristen and Amanda’s websites)…
Welcome to Vegas. Home of the Sin City Collectors. The job description is easy: Bring the offending supernatural in to the Boss and don’t ask any questions.
*All Sin City Collectors Novellas are stand alone paranormal romance novellas, each with their own set of characters and happy endings, and are all set within the world of the SCC. Our goal is for you to sit back and enjoy the ride as each author presents their unique story. Places and characters will overlap, so be sure to look for your favorites and stay tuned for more novellas!
Nevada Hamilton has learned a few things since becoming a Sin City Collector, and staying away from vampires is one of them. After botching her first Collection, the vamp getting away after causing as much damage as possible, she hasn’t been assigned to another one since.
But when she receives her next playing card, she’s in for a surprise. Not only is a vampire her next target, but they’ve paired her up to make sure she gets the job done right. Refusing a Collection is not an option, but when she discovers who she’s working with, making the mission as difficult as possible for her new partner becomes her top priority…
Being a hellhound isn’t enough to protect Jake Troubadour from Nevada Hamilton, no matter how thick his skin is. Finding out he has to work with the beautiful dhampir, after not seeing her for three years, is a low blow–but Jake is a professional. He takes his Collections as seriously as he does running his bar. He’ll do whatever it takes to get the job done, but after that, he’s out. No more chances for the girl who wrecked his bike and scarred his soul so long ago. But even with his heart dead set against it, this hellhound quickly finds he’s not immune to love after all.
Feline shifter Claudette Marchon traded life as a showgirl to become a Sin City Collector, giving up the glamour to earn some serious cash in order to buy her own business. Mission accomplished, she now runs a pawn shop specializing in gems and jewelry.
Life is good until a Collection job requiring her specific skill set lures her back in. The Queen of Hearts, a museum-worthy ruby and diamond necklace has been stolen from the Boss’s private collection and she’s his last hope to do what two other Collectors have already failed to do. Bring in the necklace. And the thief.
But gargoyle Jason Tennant isn’t quite the dangerous criminal Claudette expects. In fact, he’s not a thief at all. He’s former Special Ops and being set up by the real mastermind, forcing her to decide between the man she’s falling for and the man she works for. Proving Jason innocent may risk the Boss’s wrath, but Claudette’s heart says it’s a gamble worth taking.
Next up in the series is Amanda Carlson’s ANTE UP… coming very soon.
So… what do you all think?? Have you read these yet?? Are you a fan of multi-author collections like this? I tend to like these much better than just a bundle of books that might be themed, but aren’t related. (Those are fine… but I like this idea better.) Have you ever read a series like this before? What others should I check out?
BONUS: If you’re checking this series out, or anything else from these ladies, and want to fangirl them in person, you CAN!! Both Amanda and Kristen will be in Daytona Beach, FL in Feburary, at Coastal Magic Convention!!! Check out the website for more info, including registration and other Featured Authors.
