Words & Music Monday with Charlie Cochet

WordsAndMusicMonday

Today’s Words & Music Monday post is from an author who has my reviewers absolutely raving!!! Charlie Cochet’s THIRDS series is a witty, action packed, offering that, despite it’s paranormal/urban fantasy theme, is full of relatable characters. We are so, so happy to have her with us today to talk about the musical inspirations for Destructive Delta, and it’s members. (Links to our reviews of the first two books are listed at the bottom. Hint: GO BUY THEM… NOW… GO AHEAD… WE’LL WAIT HERE…)

CCochetRRWHello all! A big thank you to Books Make Me Happy for having me here today. Like many authors, I write to music most of the time. I love music and have always been a fan. In Rack & Ruin, the thirds THIRDS book (out in Nov), Dex is talking to Sloane about how he’s always loved music. How he remembered dancing around with his parents to his dad’s records while his mom made lemonade and baked cookies. Well, Dex’s experience was similar to my own.

When I was little, ever since I could remember, there was music in my house. My dad would play is ABBA, Elvis, and Beatles records along with a host of music from the 50s through to the 80s, and we would listen to them and I’d jump around while my mom cooked goodies in the kitchen.

For me, music has the power to bring out certain emotions, which is why it’s always played a part in my writing. Of course not any song will do. If I’m writing an action sequence, I need something fast paced or an intense instrumental piece from a soundtrack. For sweet or romantic scenes, love songs with lyrics to match what’s happening. I tend to choose songs for most scenes as I write the book. Below is the playlist that I listened to while writing Blood & Thunder, the second THIRDS book with songs key to what’s happening in certain scenes/chapters. Hope you enjoy!

When a series of bombs go off in a Therian youth center, injuring members of THIRDS Team Destructive Delta, and causing a rift between agents Dexter J. Daley and Sloane Brodie, peace seems unattainable. Especially when a new and frightening group, the Order of Adrasteia, appears to always be a step ahead. With panic and intolerance spreading and streets becoming littered with the Order’s propaganda, hostility between Humans and Therians grows daily. Dex and Sloane, along with the rest of the team, are determined to take down the Order and restore peace, not to mention settle a personal score. But the deeper the team investigates the bombings, the more they believe there’s a more sinister motive than a desire to shed blood and spread chaos.

Discovering the frightful truth behind the Order’s intent forces Sloane to confront secrets from a past he thought he’d left behind for good, a past that could not only destroy him and his career, but also the reputation of the organization that made him all he is today. Now more than ever, Dex and Sloane need each other, and, along with trust, the strength of their bond will mean the difference between justice and all-out war.
