Words & Music Monday with Chudney Thomas

Posted September 29, 2014 By Jennifer

I’m so excited to have Chudney Thomas with us this week, to showcase music from her first release, FULL CIRCLE!!

ChudneyHello Everybody! My name is Chudney Thomas and I write Paranormal Romance. I write shifters, weres, others, whatever you want to call them. I like my men hairy with big teeth. Wait, wait that didn’t sound right. What I meant to say was… I like all the goodness that comes along with Alpha males and I like it even more if they’re werewolves or shifters.

What I love just as much as writing and reading is music. I write to it. I belt out on songs in the car. I play piano. I’m a bit rusty after years of no practice, but I can still play from memory an exam piece that evokes sadness. Music has the power to move you. Make you, happy, sad. Make you ache and trigger lust.

I was in the bedroom the other night when I heard Adam Levine’s voice. It turned out not to be a music video but new Kia Soul commercial. You know, the one with the hamsters. (Go advertising team, you used my love of music and Adam Levine against me.)

That song and his voice sort triggered a thought in me. We’re living in a day and age when listening to our instincts can seem barbaric. The reason I love reading and writing in the paranormal genre is simply because it allows me to tap into that deep primal state that’s no longer acceptable in modern society. Unless you like to be terrified, but that’s a whole other post.

This song, besides having Adam Levine  belting it out, covers some of the territory of we find in a romance. You can hear need and wanting in his voice, and the lyrics take you through what quite a few characters in some of my favorite books go through in their courtships. My husband may roll his eyes when I play it, but I still like it.

Now he’s ready to claim her.

Ria does her best to avoid Drake, but the sexy woman can’t hide who she is. Tired of waiting, now he’ll do whatever it takes to win Ria, even woo her while dealing with rabid lone wolf attacks. Author Bio

I was born in Brooklyn New York, raised on the island of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. According to my father, I learned to read at three and wouldn’t allow him to skip a page of a story. I grew up raiding my mother’s stash of books and my Aunt Patsy’s extensive library. There, I developed my love of literature, and specifically romance.

Books transported me to different worlds, and encouraged me to learn about different cultures, continents, expanding my horizons. I currently live in Central Florida with my family and our interesting pet pooch Maya.

Today, one of our Featured Bloggers, Carol (Bitten By Books reviewer, DragonCon Urban Fantasy Track Director) is sharing an interview she did with one of our Featured Authors, Tonya Kappes. This is an exciting interview for me, because “cozy” paranormal mysteries have become some of my new favorite types of books to read. I can’t wait to learn a little more about Tonya, and her books. Check after the interview for a chance win the first book in her Magical Cures series!!

473728_4612154335465_1479305750_oWhen did you first know you wanted to be a writer?

Not until I was married with four children. I could tell a good story and my book club said I could write a novel about some funny situations and my husband encouraged me. That was all it took! The next day I was writing, LONG HAND, under a big oak tree at my son’s pee-wee football practice.

What kinds of books did you enjoy reading as a child and teen?

I didn’t. I never read the great novels. I never read Little Women, Gone with the Wind, The Great Gatsby. BUT I loved the movies 😉 Unless it was an invitation to a party . . . I didn’t pick it up.

If you couldn’t be an author, what would your ideal career be?

I did have my ideal career before my writing career took off. By degree I’m a child therapist. I LOVED working with children and their families.

What is one place you have never visited that you would really like to?

I have never been to Paris. I really want to see the Eiffel Tower in person and sip coffee next to it!

If you could live inside the world of any book, which would you choose?Charming Magic 600wide 72dpi

I would pick my own world of Whispering Falls in my Magical Cure Series books. The fantasy world I had created was somewhere I wanted to live. It’s a small village with cozy shops where magic plays a big part!

Do you have a favorite character to write?

YES! I love writing June Heal from my Magical Cures Series. She has special powers, sweet, and kind to everyone. I love her magical, witchy side and sooooo want secret powers!

What kinds of activities do you do for relaxation?

Ha! Relaxation? What is that? Did I mention I have four teenage boys??? I’m always on the go with something they are involved in. When I’m not doing something for them, I’m writing. BUT I do love a good date night with my hubby!

Do you ever attend fan conventions?

YES! I only attend reader conventions. I’m not a big FAN of the word fan. My readers are just like me, readers. That is what this gig is all about for me. Reaching ONE reader with my make-believe world and helping them escape from the grind of the daily life has and will be my goal. I love that!

What is one question you never get asked in interviews, but wish you did?

Since I write a ghost series, Ghostly Southern Mystery, and the cemetery is a big character in the story, I wish someone had asked me what my tombstone would have etched on it. What you ask?? THE END!

Rec My Weekend: PRIESTESS DREAMING by Yasmine Galenorn

Posted September 27, 2014 By Jennifer

Rec My Weekend is a weekend feature here, a way for me to share something new I’ve discovered, or an old favorite. And a way for YOU to help me increase my already-taller-than-me “to be read” pile. Because, really, there is NO SUCH THING AS TOO MANY BOOKS!! Feel free to share your “Rec My Weekend” recs in the comments below!

This weekend’s recommendation is part of a new release blog tour, and comes from an author, and a series, that I’ve been following for a long time. Yasmine Galenorn “creates a world I never want to leave”, according to Sherrilyn Kenyon… and I happen to agree. The amount of world building, and character development, and just plain GREAT STORYTELLING in the Otherworld series is why it’s lasted this long, and why readers keep coming back.

PRIESTESS DREAMING is the 16th book in the series, and D’Artigo sister Camille’s 6th book as the main point of view. In the series, the three sisters, Camille, Delilah, and Menolly, are each half fae, half “something else”. Camille is a Moon witch, who is, with her sisters and their partners, on continuing adventures to protect her family and friends, both on earth and in Otherworld, from a host of evil.

PriestessDreaming520We’re the D’Artigo sisters: savvy half-human, half-Fae operatives for the Otherworld Intelligence Agency. My sister Delilah is a two-faced werecat and a Death Maiden. Menolly is a vampire married to a gorgeous werepuma. And me? I’m a Moon witch married to three gorgeous husbands, and I’m about to journey through the veils to search for a long lost legend…

With the war in Otherworld raging, the Queen of Shadow and Night summons me to her court. Aeval orders me to embark on a hunt through the mists to find an ancient ally she once knew. I must seek out The Merlin and wake him from his long sleep. But Morgaine and Bran are along for the journey, and the pair pose a threat to both me and my quest. Now, surrounded by danger on all sides, I must pray they are allies rather than enemies, as we undertake a perilous search through the labyrinth of time…

Don’t let all the heavy writeup fool you, though. This series has action and intrigue to spare, but it’s also got well timed wit, family ties that are at times both fragile and steadfast, and romantic relationships that anchor and story, and heat it up! This is a series that keeps me on the edge of my seat and makes me swoon. I can’t wait to see what PRIESTESS DREAMING adds to the story.

I would definitely recommend reading the previous books in the series first. While each book does have a bit of a recap, there isn’t enough information (which would have to be considerable, honestly) to start this far into the story and fully understand all that’s going on. So, if you haven’t started the series, DEFINITELY pick up WITCHLING and get going!!! I promise, it won’t take you as long as you may think to get caught up. (Think marathon… order pizza for the family, and get comfy!!)

One way to start off… if you haven’t yet… is to WIN a copy of WITCHLING!!! To enter to win a print copy from the publisher, comment below with your name and, as a kickoff to Halloween, the most unusual costume idea you’ve ever seen for the holiday. (Was it something YOU wore?)

Also, you can click the rafflecopter link below to enter a tour wide goodie bag prize hosted by Yasmine!!! (including random goodies, swag, and a $50 Gift Card!)

Be sure to visit the other blogs on the tour for more fun posts, interviews, reviews… every stop has more chances to WIN!! Also, check out Yasmine’s blog for another exclusive contest! Here are the rest of the blog stops leading up to PRIESTESS DREAMING’s release on Tuesday:

About Yasmine:

Hi, I’m New York Times, USA TODAY, and Publisher’s Weekly bestselling author Yasmine Galenorn.  In April 2012, I won a Career Achievement Award in Urban Fantasy at the Romantic Times Convention.

I write urban fantasy/paranormal romance for Berkley: the Otherworld Series, (aka Sisters of the Moon Series), the Indigo Court Series, andyg the upcoming spin-off series in the Otherworld altaverse–the Fly By Night Series.

And yes, I’m a shamanic witch and am considered an elder in the Pagan community, having been in the Craft since February 29th (yes, leap year day), 1980.  I walk an eclectic path and consider my life to be a blend of teacups and tattoos–the former in my china closet, the latter on my skin–I’m heavily inked.  I collect teacups, teapots, Old Country Roses china (Royal Albert), antlers and skulls (of the non-human variety), daggers and crystals.  And of course, my bookshelves are overflowing with books.  I cannot walk out of a bookstore without buying at least one book.  My TBR pile is huge!

Cover Reveal: WICKED by Jennifer L Armentrout

Posted September 15, 2014 By Jennifer

We are so excited to bring you the Cover Reveal for Jennifer L. Armentrout’s WICKED!

WICKED is a New Adult Paranormal Romance and is a part of Jennifer L. Armentrout’s Wicked Trilogy. It is being released on December 8th, 2014. So make sure you pre-order it today!!

WICKED Synopsis:

Things are about to get Wicked in New Orleans.

Twenty-two year old Ivy Morgan isn’t your average college student. She, and others like her, know humans aren’t the only thing trolling the French Quarter for fun… and for food. Her duty to the Order is her life. After all, four years ago, she lost everything at the hands of the creatures she’d sworn to hunt, tearing her world and her heart apart.

Ren Owens is the last person Ivy expected to enter her rigidly controlled life. He’s six feet and three inches of temptation and swoon-inducing charm. With forest-green eyes and a smile that’s surely left a stream of broken hearts in its wake, he has an uncanny, almost unnatural ability to make her yearn for everything he has to offer. But letting him in is as dangerous as hunting the cold-blooded killers stalking the streets. Losing the boy she loved once before had nearly destroyed her, but the sparking tension that grows between them becomes impossible for Ivy to deny. Deep down, she wants… she needs more than what her duty demands of her, what her past has shaped for her.

But as Ivy grows closer to Ren, she realizes she’s not the only one carrying secrets that could shatter the frail bond between them. There’s something he’s not telling her, and one thing is for certain. She’s no longer sure what is more dangerous to her—the ancient beings threatening to take over the town or the man demanding to lay claim to her heart and her soul.
