The orbs floated on the hidden pond, just as I intended. Picking their hiding spot hadn’t been easy, but the small body of water tucked deep within the land of the fae would serve as the perfect breeding ground.

“Infect the water and the trees, spread the evil within these seeds. Activate upon my command, transforming this world into a realm of the damned.” The black ooze within each of the spheres bubbled to life, churning, ready for its release.

I faded into the shadow of a nearby tree and watched from beneath my hooded cloak as the inky tendrils of evil I’d just released, spread throughout the water.

The orbs began to radiate a dark-bluish glow, bringing into sharp relief the skeletons of animals floating up from the depths.

The once clear water was now opaque and throbbed with malicious intent. When the process was complete, the water returned to its natural state, laying the perfect trap for any unsuspecting wanders.

I cackled as the pulse of evil spread beneath my feet. “Inlavey will soon be ours.”

water_ball3_by_mrscats-d65y6xd“I hope so, because if your seeds don’t do the job, it will be your bones that I scatter across these lands instead,” threatened the seductive voice.

I turned to see the Unseelie Queen emerging from the depths of the forest, her black hair a severe contrast from her milky-white eyes.

“Fayln, I didn’t feel you lurking about?”

“That’s because I’ve become more powerful since we first met.”

My internal alarms sounded, which didn’t happen often, as my dark magick was unrivaled in this realm. I’d known the Unseelie Queen had always been power hungry, but it was in this instant that I started to regret the powers I’d once bestowed upon her.

“How long will the infection take?” she asked.

I looked at the orbs and the now decaying earth that surrounded the pond. “No more than a few days.”

“Good. That’s very good, Zakrill. Now be a good partner and give me a boost.”

Her requests for a magikal recharge had been occurring more and more frequently lately, along with my dread of having to perform them. Unfortunately, if I were to keep my plans a secret, I’d have to continue to play along.

I lumbered to her side, preparing as she flung her arms out wide, then quickly shoved my good hand through her flesh and straight into her heart. She convulsed as I sent magickal shocks into her system, causing her to writhe and moan. Her reaction was more intense than usual and suddenly a dark surge of energy radiated from her core, causing me to quickly retract.

Instantly, I knew where the evil within the orbs had originated from.

About The Author

I write paranormal romances for all ages, including my new adult series’ The Rose Trilogy and The Women of Purgatory Trilogy, as well as my adult paranormal romance, The Ovialell Series, and young adult short-stories. It’s been said my magickal elements and detailed world-building are a welcome constant in every novel.  Before becoming a writer I worked as a computer consultant, a photographer, and a graphic designer. I also operate a custom glass etching business, in addition to being a wife and the mother of three wonderful children.

I have been a fan of the paranormal for as long as I can remember.  Anything to do with superpowers, myth and magic has always held a special place in my heart.  From my first paranormal cartoon, Isis, to the phenomenon that is Twilight, this genre has always been a part of my life. Thanks for joining me on this magical journey!
