RomanceAwarenessMonth1

Just a few weeks ago, I was happily surprised to find that August is Romance Awareness Month! I can’t find an origin, but it’s a real thing, and I’m ALL FOR IT!

To celebrate, I sent an *all call* to some of my favorite romance authors, asking each of them the same questions about romance (their own, their favorites, and their characters). All month long we’ll be sharing the authors’ answers, and EVERY ONE OF THEM is offering a giveaway!

In today’s post, we welcome bestselling author of urban fantasy and paranormal mysteries, filled with action, comedy, and romance, Angie Fox. In April, the 5th book in her Southern Ghost Hunter Mysteries, SWEET TEA AND SPIRITS was released. If you haven’t started this fun series yet, we’ve got good news for you! SOUTHERN SPIRITS (Southern Ghost Hunter Mysteries, #1) is free on all platforms right now!!

One simple mistake…
It really didn’t look “that much” like an urn.
For a girl who is about to lose her family home.
So she dumped it out onto the rose bushes, and rinsed it with the hose.
Releases the ghost of a long-dead gangster.
He really didn’t have to be so rude about it.
And opens Verity Long’s eyes to a whole new world…

When out of work graphic designer Verity Long accidentally traps a ghost on her property, she’s saddled with more than a supernatural sidekick—she gains the ability see spirits. It leads to an offer she can’t refuse from the town’s bad boy, the brother of her ex and the last man she should ever partner with.

Ellis Wyatt is in possession of a stunning old property haunted by some of Sugarland Tennessee’s finest former citizens. Only some of them are growing restless—and destructive. He hires Verity to banish the troublemakers for good. But Verity discovers there’s more to the mysterious estate than floating specters, secret passageways, and hidden rooms.

There’s a modern day mystery afoot, one that hinges on a decades-old murder. Verity isn’t above questioning the living, or the dead. But can she discover the truth before the killer finds her?

RomanceQ&A

What is your simple definition of “romance”?

The little things that make all the difference.

What is the most romantic thing someone’s done for you?

When I was dating my husband, we went to a parade and took my toy poodle, Beau, along. Half-way through the festivities, the skies opened up and soaked us. We ran back to the car and poor little Beau was shivering. So, my husband took his brand new suit coat out of its protective bag in the backseat and wrapped Beau in it so that my little dog could warm up.

What is the most romantic thing one of your characters has done for their love interest?

Police officer, Ellis Wydell, hit the lights on his cruiser and pulled his love interest over so that she couldn’t get away before he told her how he felt.

Do you have a favorite romance trope? (Either to read, or write.) If so, which one?

Enemies to lovers

Who is your favorite (aside from one of your own) fictional romantic couple?

Darcy and Elizabeth

If you’re following along the posting schedule, you’ll see that today we have a BONUS POST!! Jennifer Estep writes romance in multiple YA and adult urban fantasy series.

In April, we got book 16 (!!!) in Jennifer’s wildly popular Elemental Assassins series, SNARED.

Snared-final

Note: This contains some spoilers from previous books in the series, starting with Bitter Bite, book #14. So if you haven’t read that far in the series yet, you may want to avoid reading the description below.

If you don’t know Gin “the Spider” Blanco, you don’t know dangerous female heroines.

Irony 101—The Spider herself snared in someone else’s web …

Another week, another few clues trickling in about the Circle, the mysterious group that supposedly runs the city’s underworld. Gathering intel on my hidden enemies is a painstaking process, but a more immediate mystery has popped up on my radar: a missing girl.

My search for the girl begins on the mean streets of Ashland, but with all the killers and crooks in this city, I’m not holding out much hope that she’s still alive.

A series of clues leads me down an increasingly dark, dangerous path, and I realize that the missing girl is really just the first thread in this web of evil. As an assassin, I’m used to facing down the worst of the worst, but nothing prepares me for this new, terrifying enemy—one who strikes from the shadows and is determined to make me the next victim.

RomanceQ&A

What is your simple definition of “romance”?

Two people who love each other, accept each other’s faults/weaknesses, and compliment/make each other better, stronger people.

What is the most romantic thing someone’s done for you?

When my first book was published, my significant other surprised me with a book charm/necklace.

Do you have any “romance mishaps” you can share?

I plead the fifth on this one. LOL.

What is the most romantic thing one of your characters has done for their love interest?

I think that one of the most romantic things that any character (fictional or otherwise) can do is to accept their partner for who they are as a person, the way that Gin/Owen do for each other in my Elemental Assassin series.

Do you have a favorite romance trope? (Either to read, or write.) If so, which one?

I like the fake-relationship-that-turns-real trope.

Who is your favorite (aside from one of your own) fictional romantic couple?

Beauty and the Beast

Today we get to chat a bit with the author of both contemporary and speculative fiction romances, Megan Hart.

We also get to help Megan show off the cool new cover the upcoming rerelease of PASSION MODEL (available on the 13th!).

For Recreational Intercourse Operative Gemma, patrolling Newcity’s Lovehuts and Pleasurebots isn’t much of a pleasure. But it’s work she clings to after an accident destroyed her marriage and left her with half her body made of replacement parts. She keeps her head down and her mind on her job, waiting for the proverbial hammer to fall. The head of the ruling council is out to make those like her illegal. If anyone finds out she’s mecho, she’s toast.
A routine inspection of a Pleasurebot turns into a strictly forbidden—and mind-blowing—sexual encounter. Then she realizes it isn’t an “it” at all. He’s human, and despite the sweet-hot climaxes he gives her, she buries her report to save them both from the consequences.
Except he can’t seem to stay away from her, and for a time life seems almost…normal. Until Gemma uncovers Declan’s own deep, dark secret. A secret that could get her fired from R.I.O. Or both of them killed.

RomanceQ&A

What is your simple definition of “romance”?

HEA. Without a happy ever after (or even happy for now) to me, it’s not a romance.

What is the most romantic thing someone’s done for you?

Covered my bedroom ceiling with glow in the dark stars while I was away, without telling me he was going to do it. I didn’t know until I went to bed and turned out the lights.

Do you have any “romance mishaps” you can share?

Only the usual — gave someone who didn’t deserve it too many chances. That sort of thing.

If your own romance was a novel, the title would be…

Finally Got It Right

What is the most romantic thing one of your characters has done for their love interest?

Listened to her, heard her, and made whatever she wanted to happen, happen.

Do you have a favorite romance trope? (Either to read, or write.) If so, which one?

Femdom (I doubt this is a trope because it’s not as popular as the other way around, but I love it!) Also second chance at love, forced proximity and older woman/younger man.

Who is your favorite (aside from one of your own) fictional romantic couple?

I have to go with Lizzie and Mr. Darcy.

RomanceGiveaway

We get to help Megan share the PASSION MODEL new cover love. One of YOU lucky commenters will win a digital copy of PASSION MODEL, along with the sequel, DRIVEN, and the companion “world” story, ANYTHING YOU WANT. To enter, tell us the first thing you notice about a book cover. The title font? The coloring? The people? What makes a great cover, in your opinion?  One winner will be selected, at random, from all entries posted by August 15th, and notified by email. Full winners list will be posted on September 1st.

Today we get to help author Kate Douglas celebrate the re-release of the tenth book in her Wolf Tales series, and shine a spotlight on her current Spirit Wild series!

In April, Kate release DARK TERROR (Spirit Wild, #5). The Spirit Wild series is a spin-off of her incredibly popular Wolf Tales series (but can be read as a standalone series, if you’re not caught up on Wolf Tales.)

Before she was rescued from a human trafficking ring by the Chanku, Mary Ryder had lived a tortured life as a sex slave and prostitute, and the emotional scars of that time still haunt her. Through the patient strength and genuine devotion of Jack Temple, Mary is slowly learning to open herself to the possibility of uncorrupted love and passion in his arms. But before the two can explore their newfound connection and dream of life as a mated pair, they must face a dark menace threatening all Chanku.

Aldo Xanakis was thought to be dead, but harnessing the life force of those he had slain, he has reappeared as a dark and vicious demon hell-bent on the destruction of the pack–and of all humankind. With only days to stop the demon’s lethal plans and the fanatical religious cult he has enlisted to serve him, the entire Chanku pack unites to combine their power against him.

As Mary and Jack are thrown together in an epic battle against evil, they and the rest of the pack will be forced to harness all the magic and sensual power they possess to preserve their way of life and everything they hold dear.

RomanceQ&A

What is your simple definition of “romance”?

People fall in love (gender/number of protagonists not important) but go through hell until they find their happily ever after.

What is the most romantic thing someone’s done for you?

My husband gave me an engagement ring fifteen years after we were married–we were so dirt poor when he originally proposed that we could only afford his wedding band–gold was still $36 an ounce and his ring cost $55 (and we had a payment plan for that!) and the jeweler threw mine in for free. That was almost 46 years ago, and I’m still wearing that same gold band–and the engagement ring when we go out.

Do you have any “romance mishaps” you can share?

A terrible first marriage, very brief, that I refer to as my training marriage. I learned everything I DIDN’T want in a husband. The next time I knew what I wanted and I still have him.

If your own romance was a novel, the title would be…

Love, Laughter, and Occasional Thoughts of Murder

What is the most romantic thing one of your characters has done for their love interest?

In Wolf Tales 12, Keisha Rialto pulls her spouse Anton Cheval, the pack alpha, away from a stressful situation and takes him to a beautiful hidden glen where she forces him to relax, makes love to him, and sends him back refreshed to do what needs to be done. That brief moment of respite is, to me, the most romantic thing a partner can do for the one they love.

Do you have a favorite romance trope? (Either to read, or write.) If so, which one?

I’ve always loved Beauty and the Beast stories, a damaged or different hero and a partner who loves them for the person inside.

Who is your favorite (aside from one of your own) fictional romantic couple?

I’d have to say the lovers in the book I’m reading at the time. I love them all.

RomanceGiveaway

To help get readers ready for next April’s sixth book in the Spirit Wild series, Kate is offering up one print copy (US only, this time) of DARK MOON, to one of YOU! If you haven’t had the chance to get started, here’s some motivation! To enter, comment below with something romantic a character has done in your current (or last) read. One winner will be selected, at random, from all entries posted by August 15th, and notified by email. Full winners list will be posted on September 1st.

RomanceQ&A

What is your simple definition of “romance”?

Happily ever after!

What is the most romantic thing someone’s done for you?

On Navy Guy’s first deployment after our daughter was born, he arranged to have flowers delivered to me every single week.

Do you have any “romance mishaps” you can share?

In college, I had a thing for musicians with long hair. I’d tell you more, but then I’d have to kill you. 🙂

If your own romance was a novel, the title would be…

TALK TO ME, BABY (Navy guys are remarkably quiet…)

What is the most romantic thing one of your characters has done for their love interest?

I have so many I don’t even know how to choose one. Alaric, High Priest of Atlantis, gave up his magical powers and his job and his entire life for Quinn. (HEART OF ATLANTIS). King Conlan abdicated the throne of Atlantis for Riley. The heroes of my Cardinal Witches series are more funny than romantic, and would laugh at the idea of poetry, but they’re protective alpha males with secret tender hearts!

Do you have a favorite romance trope? (Either to read, or write.) If so, which one?

YES!! The hunky adventurer hero and the brainy heroine. The MUMMY movie with Brendan Fraser was EVERYTHING. I SO begged the universe to let me star in a sequel with Oded Fehr as my leading man…

Who is your favorite (aside from one of your own) fictional romantic couple?

See above. Also Han Solo and Princess Leia.
